Law Society of Ireland Annual Human Rights Conference

Organised by the Law Society of Ireland’s Human Rights and Equality Committee, the Law Society of Ireland’s Annual Human Rights Conference takes place on Friday, 18 November from 10am - 4pm and will focus on bullying, harassment and sexual harassment in the workplace.

The Annual Human Rights Conference Series
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Law Society’s Human Rights Committee Annual Conference series. The principal aim of the conference series is to promote awareness of human rights law and practice among both lawyers and the public, and also to encourage consideration of how human rights can be promoted and protected.

Topics and Issues to be Covered

  • Discussion on the findings in the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre Report on Workplace Sexual Harassment & Abuse and crossover between workplace sexual harassment and health and safety issues
  • The value of fostering psychological safety at work, the importance of nurturing positive relationships at work and the need to challenge incivility and bullying in the workplace.
  • The destructive impact of workplace bullying based on research evidence, and exploring the value of mediation as an alternative to litigation.
  • Discussion on different forms of environmental harassment and the importance of diversity and inclusion to prevent same.
  • Practicalities of taking a case to the Workplace Relations Commission.
  • Barriers to accessing employment, access to justice, and the disconnect between rights enshrined in legislation and actual rights afforded to Irish Travellers.
