Sage Advocacy’s mission is to promote, protect and defend the rights and dignity of vulnerable adults, older people and healthcare patients. It works to ensure that people have easy access to independent support and advocacy services in all settings: homes, day centres, respite facilities, congregated care settings / nursing homes, hospitals, hostels, hospices and in the process of transition between them. Since it was established in 2014, with the support of the HSE and The Atlantic Philanthropies, it has built a strong reputation for independence of thought and action and is a ‘go to’ service in relation to issues of capacity and decision making.
Reporting to the Chair of the Board, and supported by a strong governance structure, the person appointed will be responsible for leading and managing a hard-working team of paid staff and volunteers and a network of supporters with specialist expertise. S/he will be responsible for informing the development of strategy and ensuring its implementation as well as supporting the strong ‘can do’ culture of the organisation.
Management of external stakeholder relationships will be a key part of the role: funders, media, Oireachtas, government departments, regulatory and professional bodies, service providers and other advocacy services. The appointee will be responsible for the management of resources and securing further resources where possible.
Candidates should have significant experience in managing and developing organisations and in the delivery of strategic plans and programmes. They should have a strong track record of building and supporting multi-perspective teams capable of tackling complex and challenging issues and be self-starters with experience in financial management and good corporate governance. They are likely to be graduates from a third level institution, have a background in health, social care, legal or human rights work and be effective communicators with strong influencing skills.
