Date: 20 November 2015
Time: 9:00am - 2:00pm
Venue: Phoenix Boardroom, 1st Floor Phoenix Building, North Campus, Maynooth University
The conference will explore the issue of undeclared work and examine the spectrum of undeclared work through the case studies of independent contractors and undocumented migrant workers.
The relationship between undeclared work and employment status raises important questions of access to employment protections, taxation, and access to social benefits. The conference will bring together a range of international scholars, policy makers and other stakeholders in order to address conceptual and practical aspects of the regulatory challenge posed by the phenomenon of undeclared work.
Ms Justice Mary Laffoy of the Supreme Court will chair the conference. Keynote sessions will be given by leading experts in employment law, migration law, and regulation including Andrea Broughton (Institute of Employment Studies), Professor Alan Neal (University of Warwick) and Professor Sonia McKay (London Metropolitan University). A roundtable discussion led by policymakers, advocacy groups, and practitioners will focus on whether, and how, issues around employment status and undeclared work should be dealt with through regulation.
The conference is free of charge but places are limited, so book your place by sending an email to law@nuim.ie.
