Human Rights Education and Training Project Research Intern, IHRC – Deadline 17 April

Unpaid Part-time Internship 

(14 – 21 hours per week over 2 -3 days)

The internship in this area would expose the successful candidate to the work of the IHRC in implementing its Human Rights Education and Training work within the Research and Policy Division, including working with the Civil and Public Sector. This position is particularly suitable for people who wish to work in research, education and training in relation to human rights, equality or social justice or to candidates from National Human Rights Institutions or other organisations involved in research, education and training on human rights.

Types of tasks:

Implementing the IHRC’s Human Rights Education and Training Project work involves researching, developing and designing specific training programmes and strategies for delivering training to the Civil and Public Service, developing publications and eLearning materials.

The (unpaid) incumbent would assist in the substantive areas of work of the Human Rights Education and Training Project and her or his tasks may include, preparing detailed research papers using domestic, European and international law, writing briefing notes and drafting accessible information on human rights, preparation and research of training materials and general administrative tasks.

Applicants for this internship must include a completed application form indicating their agreement with the IHRC code of conduct and the names of 2 referees.

Criteria for Applicants:

Essential criteria:

  • Fluency in English;
  • Postgraduate qualification in human rights law;
  • Excellent research skills;
  • Some work experience in a professional environment;
  • Demonstrated interest in the area of human rights in Ireland;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills;
  • The ability to work in a team and to specific deadlines;
  • Availability for no less than 3 months, (preference will be given to those available for six months);
  • Permission to be legally resident in Ireland;

Desirable criteria:

  • Qualification in political science, education, equality or social justice;
  • Working towards PhD in related area;
  • Some experience of communicating legalese in a more accessible format, especially with a training function in mind;
  • Second language desirable, including Irish.
