Threshold is seeking to recruit a Legal Officer to take legal cases on behalf of their clients and to provide legal expertise and training to staff in their regional advice centres. The Legal Officer will also play a key role in their lobbying, research and communications activities. The successful candidate will be responsible to the Director.
The main responsibilities will be as follows:
o Provide legal expertise and support to Threshold's Regional Advice Centres.
o Assist staff in the advice centres with the preparation of legal cases
o Take cases on behalf of clients including advice, negotiation and representation before the Private Residential Tenancies Board, Rent Tribunal, or other hearing, tribunal or court proceedings
o Identify possible test cases, in conjunction with the Director, Management Team and Board
o Contribute to the development of Threshold policy positions and in briefing/lobbying key opinion formers on same
o Assisting with media statements and media queries
o Keeping the organisation updated on relevant legal developments
o Ensure appropriate monitoring and recording systems are in place to capture information relevant to legal cases
o Ensure that the organisation complies with all relevant legislation
o Proofing all published material that contains advice or legal information to ensure accuracy
o Provide training to Threshold services
o Represent the organisation as agreed by the CEO
o Complete other tasks as may reasonably be required
The successful candidate will be a fully qualified Solicitor or Barrister with at least two year's post qualification experience. They will have the ability to absorb all aspects of housing law and policy and be committed to a rights-based approach. They will have advocacy skills and high level of communications skills, good initiative, enthusiasm, team work and co-ordination skills. The salary will be circa €35,000 depending on experience.
