National Disability Authority: Annual Gold Medal for disability research related to policy, practice or the social inclusion of people with disabilities – deadline 30 October

The National Disability Authority is instituting an annual Gold Medal for disability research related to policy, practice or the social inclusion of people with disabilities. In addition to the Gold medal, there will be a cash prize of €1,000. The award is aimed at early career researchers. 

Eligibility criteria:

·         Early-career researcher, i.e. within 15 years of primary degree or 5 years of completion of Master’s or PhD

·         Only a single researcher may apply (no joint applications)

·         Quantitative research on disability in Ireland, for example research making use of disability variables in mainstream Irish data sets such as CSO household datasets, the Growing up in Ireland Survey, TILDA, or using the national Disability Survey microdata

·         The award is focused on research relevant to the social inclusion of people with disabilities. Research that is medical or clinical will not be eligible

·         Research that has already been published elsewhere is ineligible

·         Canvassing will disqualify

Applications

Applicants are invited to complete an application form, giving an abstract of their paper, for consideration by 30th October 2015. Applications will be checked against eligibility criteria and applications deemed eligible will be invited to submit a full completed paper (max. 7,500 words) by 31st May 2016. Late applications to either stage will not be admitted.

The winning candidate will be notified in August 2016, and will be invited to present their paper at a seminar and award event in the National Disability Authority in Dublin in September 2016. If no candidate reaches the required standard, no award will be made.
