Human Rights Group urge prosecution of US legal advisors for alleged involvement in torture of Guantánamo detainees

New York based Human Rights group the Centre for Constitutional Rights (CCR) have filed papers urging Spanish Judge Eloy Velasco to initiate proceedings in Spain against six US officials known as the "Bush Six" for their alleged involvement in the torture of detainees at Guantánamo Bay and other overseas locations. The detainees were suspected of committing terrorism.

The legal opinion details the extent of the alleged involvement of the "Bush Six". The accused comprise of former US government legal advisors - headed by the former US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales - who established the legal framework which the CCR say "materially contributed" to the alleged torture of suspected terrorists. The CCR considers this petition is necessary on the ground that the Obama administration appears unwilling to take such action.
