In 2009, PILA (Public Interest Law Alliance) was launched with a collaborative vision for getting the law working for those most in need.
Having operated for 50 years leading the access to justice movement in Ireland, FLAC (Free Legal Advice Centres) recognised that there was a strong public interest spirit across civil and legal society. This spirit was in need of a central driver to draw together and connect all those seeking to spearhead the law as an agent of positive social change.
PILA was established to develop public interest law in Ireland in a practical way, and remains one of FLAC’s core strategies for increasing access to justice.
