Minister McEntee launches Cuan – the new statutory domestic, sexual and gender based violence agency.

On the 23rd of February the Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee launched Cuan, a dedicated agency aimed at addressing domestic, sexual and gender-based violence (DSGBV).

In Minister McEntee’s address, she expressed pride in the establishment of Cuan, highlighting its importance in driving initiatives to stop all forms of DSGBV in Ireland. She also introduced Dr Stephanie O’Keefe as Cuan’s CEO, who emphasized the agency's commitment to working with various relevant departments, agencies and NGOs to bring about real change.

Cuan’s main goals include coordinating and reporting on the delivery of Government strategies relating to DSGBV. Cuan will also support and oversee the delivery of safe and accessible refuge accommodation for victims of DSGBV. The agency will develop robust standards for DSGBV services and lead awareness raising campaigns to prevent DSGBV in Ireland and ensure all victims know the full range of supports available to them as well as how to access them. Cuan will liaise with the Department for Justice and ensure the work of the agency aligns with Government DSGBV policies. The agency will also lead research on DSGBV policy development.

With its formation, Cuan aims to lead Ireland towards a future with zero tolerance for domestic violence, safeguarding the rights and well-being of all individuals.
