At ARC our mission is to provide psychological, emotional, educational, and practical support to people with cancer and those who care for them, through a warm, welcoming, and client-centred approach. We aim to ensure that everyone in Ireland is aware our services, so that anyone who may need our support can access us.   

 

We provide care and support to people recently diagnosed, are in treatment, finished treatment, or caring for a loved one with cancer, providing survivorship programmes, complementary therapies, counselling, and drop-in services. Founded in 1994, our services are confidential, professional, and caring, and are provided free of charge across our three centres located close to the major oncology hospitals in Dublin and our fourth online centre.   

 

About the Role 
ARC Cancer Support Centres (ARC) is currently recruiting for the position of Volunteer Quality & Safety Committee Member. ARC’s committees play important role in ensuring good governance practices are upheld and that ARC continues to provide life changing services to our clients. ARC is in the early stages of an exciting transformation process and this membership will play an important part in the outcome of this journey.   

 

Quality and Safety Committees have an important role in identifying and agreeing the indicators that will be monitored and reviewed within ARC.  The primary focus of the committee will be to review indicators that relate specifically to the quality of the service being delivered, and the outcomes of this for clients. The Quality and Safety Committee will oversee quality and safety on behalf of the Board.   

 

Person Specification 

  • All levels of education and experience will be considered, however experience in a clinical environment, risk management, or a compliance officer, will be a distinct advantage 

  • Understanding and experience of working in the Heath Service Executive or a HIQA regulated organisation would be a significant advantage. 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities   

 

Aim  
The overall aim of the Quality and Safety Committee will be to develop, deliver, champion, implement and evaluate a comprehensive quality and safety programme with associated structures, policies and processes, which are the vehicle for promoting a culture of quality improvement across ARC.   

 

Objectives  
The quality and safety committee will be a committee of the Board, comprising of non-executive and executive members to: 

  • Oversee the development by the executive management team of a quality and safety programme for ARC.  

  • Recommend to the Board a quality and safety programme and an executive management team structure, policies and processes that clearly articulates responsibility, authority and accountability for quality and safety across the organisation.  

  • Secure assurance from the executive management team on the implementation of the quality and safety programme and the application of appropriate governance structure and processes (e.g., risk escalation) including monitored outcomes through quality indicators and outcome measures.  

  • Secure assurance from the Executive Management Team that the service conforms with all regulatory and legal requirements to assure quality, safety, and risk management. 

  • Offer a level of assurance to the Board on governance structures, processes, standards, oversight, and controls.  

  • Act as advocates for quality and safety issues which cannot be resolved by the Executive Management Team, escalating them to relevant external forums.  

  • To consider in greater depth matters referred to the Committee by the Board and referral of issues to the Board for consideration when necessary.  

 

Frequency of Meetings: Quality and Safety Board & Executive Committee  
Typically, prior to each board meeting of which there are six spread throughout the year.
