Events will take place, throughout the week – to highlight and promote pro bono culture.
A central objective of this year’s Pro Bono Week is to bring together various stakeholders in the pro bono ecosystem – lawyers, law students, non-profits, academics, and businesses – for an engaging conversation on the impact and role of pro bono in tackling important social and legal issues.

Former Chief Justice, Mr. Frank Clarke, will launch Pro Bono Week 2021. This will be followed by presentations from President of the Law Society, Michelle Ní Longáin, and Chair of the Bar Council, Maura McNally SC. The event will conclude with a fireside chat hosted by Larry Donnelly who will speak with PILA Legal Officer Danielle Curtis BL about the impact of pro bono in Ireland.

Legal professionals will discuss the organisational role played by trustees, the essential elements of good governance, the key legal duties of charity trustees, and provide tips to NGOs for compliance.

Within this session, lawyers will act out a scenario where a civil society organisation is holding its monthly staff meeting. As the meeting proceeds, a panel of lawyers will address the various issues that arise in areas such as employment law, charity law, lobbying/political rules, defamation, social media & data protection, and health and safety of employees due to Covid19.

Chair Anne Marie Bohan (Matheson) will be joined by Niall Rooney, Group Data Protection Officer (Rehab Group), Ronan Lupton SC, and Sarah Noonan (Philip Lee) for what promises to be a jam-packed hour of discussion. The panel will discuss the 7 principles of GDPR and provide some top tips for compliance.
