Pro Bono Week Ireland 2021
The Public Interest Law Alliance are co-ordinating Pro Bono Week Ireland 2021 which will run from Monday 22nd November to Friday 26th November. The event will be hosted virtually due to the current Government restrictions and for the safety of all involved.
Pro Bono Week celebrates the role played by volunteer lawyers, across Ireland, in supporting civil society and social justice organisations and promoting access to justice for those in need. A central objective of this year’s Pro Bono Week is to bring together various stakeholders in the pro bono ecosystem – regulatory bodies, lawyers, law students, non-profits, academics, and businesses – for an engaging conversation on the impact and role of pro bono in tackling important social and legal issues. Throughout the week there will be a number of workshops, hosted by PILA and partner law firms, for the NGO sector, covering a myriad of legal issues such as good governance, data protection, and employment law. There will also be a Pro Bono Bootcamp which is aimed at law firms who wish to or are in the early days of establishing their Pro Bono Practice.
The work of FLAC and PILA would not be possible without our legal volunteers who give their time and expertise on a pro-bono basis. Pro Bono Week Ireland is an opportunity to acknowledge and thank the legal profession for their huge contribution to the cause of social justice. It also allows us the opportunity to celebrate all that has been achieved through the PILA’s Pro Bono Referral Scheme.
The week will be launched at 5 pm on the 22nd and will be chaired by FLAC Chairperson David Fennelly, followed by a presentation from PILA Legal Officer Danielle Curtis on the impact of pro bono work in Ireland.
We hope you can make it for what promises to be an engaging and insightful week of events.
