As part of the summer edition of the Féile an Phobail festival in Belfast, the PILS Project are hosting an evening with US public interest lawyer and EJI founder Bryan Stevenson this coming Saturday at 8pm.
About the PILS Project
The PILS Project was founded in 2009 as a not-for-profit organisation. It provides legal and financial support to non-governmental organisations and solicitor firms to bring public interest cases and to advance human rights and equality in Northern Ireland. They aim to encourage adherence to the rule of law, human rights and equality, through the use of public interest litigation. They aim to encourage non-governmental organisations and legal professionals to improve communication and co-ordination in relation to public interest litigation. They also aim to raise awareness of and tackle barriers to public interest litigation.

Féile an Phobail is based in West Belfast and is a registered charity/company limited by guarantee. It provides a programme of arts, cultural and community-based activities throughout the year with its flagship festival, the August Féile being the highlight of Ireland’s festival calendar.
About Bryan Stevenson
Bryan Stevenson is the founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative, a human rights organisation in Montgomery, Alabama. Under his leadership, EJI has won major legal challenges eliminating excessive and unfair sentencing, exonerating innocent death row prisoners, confronting abuse of the incarcerated and the mentally ill, and aiding children prosecuted as adults. In his career as a public interest lawyer, Bryan Stevenson has dedicated his life to dismantling racial inequality, injustice and discrimination in the United States. In 2020, Bryan’s life story was shared on the silver screen in the global box office success ‘Just Mercy’.
About the event
Bryan Stevenson will join The PILS Project virtually on Saturday 14 August at 8pm to discuss race, the law and how the law can be used as a tool for achieving true social justice.
