FLAC (Free Legal Advice Centres) last week appeared before the Special Committee on Covid-19 Response and called on the Government to incorporate access to justice in its response to the pandemic.
FLAC expressed concern at the significant delays that are imminent in the justice system, particularly with the Legal Aid Board and the courts, both of which were already under-resourced.
FLAC also highlighted concerns in relation to the Covid Pandemic Unemployment Payment, specifically the ‘Holiday Rules’ and the requirement to be genuinely seeking work.
FLAC further raised gaps in employment law, evictions, and the increase and exacerbation of personal debt.
