FIDH: Towards Effective EU Mandatory Human Rights & Environmental Due Diligence – 8 June

As part of the recovery form the current coronavirus crisis, it will be essential to ensure that supply chains become more sustainable. Human rights and environmental due diligence is key to overcoming the serious and ongoing human rights and environmental violations taking place in global supply chains. European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders has now announced he will initiate the process towards making such due diligence mandatory.

How should the legislation be shaped to ensure its effectiveness? What are the essential elements to mainstream responsible business conduct and protect the environment, the rights of workers, communities, and to ensure their access to justice? What lessons can be learnt from past and present experiences to promote human rights and fight corporate abuses in global supply chains?
