Immigrant Council of Ireland: Integration Officer – closing date 30 September 2019

The Immigrant Council of Ireland is a non-governmental organisation and Independent Law Centre which provides information, advice and legal representation to migrants and their families moving to or living in Ireland. The Immigrant Council’s aim is to directly assist migrants in navigating the Irish immigration system and, in turn, the organisation uses its experience and expertise to lobby for positive policy and legislative changes within the immigration system and associated areas.

The Immigrant Council of Ireland is currently seeking applications for the following position:

Title of position: Integration Officer
Reporting to: CEO of the Immigrant Council of Ireland through the Integration Team Coordinator
Location: 2 St Andrew St, Dublin 2
Start date: Immediately if possible, but no later than Monday, 4 November 2019

This is a fixed-term (6 month), part-time role (3 days per week, i.e. 21 hours per week excluding 1 hour lunch break daily), subject to funding. A one month probationary period applies.

Purpose of the Job:

The Integration Officer will have a key role in devising and implementing Immigrant Council of Ireland projects that promote migrant integration.

The Integration Officer will have as a key focus the promotion of political participation of migrants and supporting Local Authorities to develop and implement local migrant integration strategies.

The post will also involve continuing to strengthen the Immigrant Council’s networking capacity by maintaining existing relationships and contacts and building new relationships with relevant stakeholders, as well as facilitating consultation processes on various topics as directed by the Immigrant Council management and board.

Key areas of responsibility:

Liaison role:

  • Engage with Government Departments, Local Authorities, political parties, community and faith-based groups, NGOs and other key stakeholders with a focus on building new relationships, both regionally and locally, and liaising on relevant integration projects.
  • Identify opportunities for the Immigrant Council among existing and potential associate organisations, with particular responsibility for the involvement of local stakeholders, on themes such as political participation and local integration actions and plans.

Policy and Monitoring role:

  • Monitor the implementation of local integration measures.
  • Research and develop good practice initiatives on migrant integration.
  • Assist in developing policy statements and positions in relation to national and local migrant integration issues.

Research and Facilitator role:

  • Carry out and support the implementation of integration-related research projects.
  • Support the implementation of information events and campaigns aimed at promoting migrant integration.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in a comparable position with an emphasis on working on issues of migration, integration, community development, diversity and anti-racism.
  • Demonstrable understanding and regard of the Immigrant Council’s vision and mission statement.
  • Ability to carry out social research.
  • Track record of establishing and developing relationships with key people in State agencies, Local Authorities, service providers, political parties and community/voluntary groups.
  • Experience in networking and representing organisations.
  • Fluency in English; fluency in another language desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to work and engage in intercultural settings.
  • Highly self-motivated, innovative and able to work autonomously.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of social, organisational and professional standards in job-related activities.
  • IT literacy including experience of working with Microsoft Office.

Salary & Benefits:

  • €25,000 - €35,000 per annum pro rata, depending on experience.
  • 25 days annual leave per year pro rata.
