PILnet envisions a world where the rule of law delivers justice and protects human rights. PILnet collaborates with local partners around the globe to develop the legal landscape essential to rights-respecting societies. It provides lawyers with the tools they need to challenge injustice, strengthens the ability of citizens to shape law and policy, and connects a global community of activist lawyers who are using law to advance change.
Based in Europe and reporting to the Director of Programs, the Legal Officer will oversee PILnet’s global clearinghouse efforts, and help to enhance the network of lawyers, nonprofits and academics across all global jurisdictions. The Legal Officer will work in tandem with other PILnet offices and programs to provide cross-jurisdictional support to their projects. As part of the global programs team, the Legal Officer will play a central role in the planning and implementation of PILnet’s signature event, the Global Forum. The officer will also organize and support regional pro bono roundtables and events, which encourage the development of local pro bono culture and opportunities. The Legal Officer will work closely with regional staff to mentor fellows and interns, and is expected to provide trainings related to pro bono, public interest law, and access to justice. Regular travel is expected.
