Pavee Point: Bringing Human Rights Home - Traveller and Roma Human Rights in Ireland, 16 April, Dublin.

A national seminar will be held to mark International Traveller and Roma Day 2018 which will provide a space for dialogue between Traveller and Roma leaders, policy-makers and other human rights experts. Panel discussions will reflect on Traveller and Roma human rights in 2018 and discuss how the human rights framework and the National Traveller and Roma Inclusion Strategy can be used to progress Traveller and Roma rights.

Objectives:

  • To provide an overview of recent data on the issues facing Travellers and Roma in Ireland to service providers and policy-makers (Census 2016, ESRI and IHREC data and the National Roma Needs Assessment).
  • To support policy-makers to apply the findings of recent research in relation to Roma and Travellers in Ireland to inform policy development, within a human rights and equality framework.
  • To increase awareness of the EU framework for National Roma Integration Strategies and provide information on the implementation of Ireland’s National Traveller and Roma Inclusion Strategy.
