Global Legal Action Network: Volunteer Administrator – deadline 30 January

Global Legal Action Network (GLAN) is a new charity who needs volunteer administrative and organisational support for about 8 hours a week, plus occasional meetings a year in central London.

The Organisation​

GLAN is a non-profit organisation that identifies and pursues innovative legal actions aimed at protecting human rights in the developing world. Our aim is to promote accountability for human rights abuses and to work in partnership with those who have experienced injustice. We do this to promote the rule of law and help bring about positive changes in the lives of individuals, groups or communities. The Role

Without internal capacity GLAN would struggle to bring together the numerous lawyers, journalists and volunteers that identify and pursue its legal actions. This role involves ensuring the effective administration of GLAN as well as monitoring the progress of legal projects. The successful candidate should have a minimum of 8 years experience, demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, have an eye for detail, and be self-guided. An aptitude for improving internal processes and experience in managing legal work would be an advantage. This is a unique opportunity for someone with significant operational know-how to join a human rights start-up that is committed to social change. This role will be critical to GLAN's success in establishing itself as a reliable, effective and sustainable charity. While the organisation has a registered office and holds regular meetings in Central London the candidate would work remotely.

Main duties include:

  • Monitoring progress of projects using our online system (‘Basecamp’)

  • Facilitate communication between trustees, members and director

  • Controlling organisation’s schedule and central databases

  • Scheduling and facilitating meetings of organisation

  • Improving internal communication protocols

  • Recommending process improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness

Essential competencies for the role include a proven ability in the following areas:

  • IT skills – including MS Office and project administration systems.

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Project monitoring experience

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Capable of recording accurate minutes, organising meetings, circulating correct documentation.

  • Reliability & adaptability

Time commitment (negotiable)​

The successful candidate would contribute approximately 8 hours each week (remotely), either in or out of office hours. Where necessary the candidate will attend a meetings in Central London, travel expenses will be paid.​
