Irish immigration support centre, NASC Ireland, is recruiting a legal intern to support the work of the Legal Team at the organisation’s headquarters in Cork city.
Reporting to the Legal Officer, the post will entail assisting with the provision of information and advice at first instance as part of the organisation’s walk-in service. This successful applicant will gain the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the practical application of human rights asylum law in an independent human rights organisation. Main responsibilities will include supporting the daily operation of the legal department, assessing individual queries, drafting letters to other bodies and government departments, conducting both legal and non-legal research and carrying out administrative tasks as required.
The 30 hour/4 day week internship is available from the beginning of September and will last for a duration of between 6 and 9 months. The position is not paid, however a small stipend for expenses will be available.
Applicants must hold a law degree and demonstrate a commitment to human rights and social justice. Further prerequisites include excellent verbal and written skills in English, computer literacy, as well as strong analytical, drafting and time management skills. Particular knowledge of the areas of refugee law, human rights, public international and humanitarian law are a bonus, as is previous work experience in a similar position which, while not a requirement, may be an advantage.
