The Irish Community Development Law Journal (ICDLJ) is a peer reviewed online journal, published twice a year by Community Law & Mediation Centre, in Coolock, Dublin. The journal seeks to offer a platform for interaction that encourages greater scholarly and academic collaboration in the areas of social policy, law and community development, promoting the practice of community economic development law and policy in Ireland and learn about these initiatives in other countries. The journal also seeks to create channels of collaboration between academia, practitioners and any other interested parties.
Volume 5 Issue 1 focuses on Access to Justice and highlights the importance of a citizen’s ability to realise his or her rights; that they such rights be practical and effective and not merely theoretical and illusory. Individual citizens should be able to access their legal rights without any financial, social or cultural barriers. Contributions were received from FLAC’s Legal and Policy Officer Ciaran Finlay on the impact of austerity on civil legal aid as highlighted in FLAC’s most recent report “ Accessing Justice in Hard Times” (click here for a copy of the report); Ursula Connolly and Dr. Shivaun Quinlivan, who consider access to justice in the employment law context, specifically in the context of workplace bullying; Judicial Review of Local Authority decisions by Diarmaid O’Sullivan as well as case study updates by CLM solicitor Clare Naughton.
