A report commissioned by FLAC and PILA, entitled ‘Clinical Legal Education in Ireland: Progress and Potential’ will be launched on the campus of NUI Galway on Friday 16 October at 5 PM. The author of the report is Larry Donnelly, Lecturer & Director of Clinical Legal Education in the School of Law, NUI Galway. Mr. Donnelly was also the PILA Manager from 2010-2012.
The report includes statistics on clinical legal education programmes in Ireland, interviews with those directing clinics in Ireland, a look at two clinical programmes in the UK and interviews with students who participated in clinical programmes, as well as supervisors who oversaw their work while on clinical placements. The report concludes with some reflections on the findings of the report and a series of recommendations as to how clinical legal education programmes in Ireland should be expanded and enhanced in the future. A one day conference focusing on the report, and on clinical legal education more broadly, is planned for the coming months.
The report will be launched by retired High Court Judge Bryan McMahon. For more information about the launch, please contact Nicola Gavin of the School of Law, NUI Galway (nicola.gavin@nuigalway.ie).
