The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) is inviting applications for roles in their legal team; Head of Legal, Solicitor and Legal Officer. This is an exciting time to join what is essentially a start-up organisation, bringing together the two former bodies of the Equality Authority and the Irish Human Rights Commission. IHREC is accountable to the Oireachtas for its statutory functions and has a broad legislative mandate to protect and promote human rights and equality and to encourage the development of a culture of respect for human rights, equality and inter-cultural understanding in the State.
The legal team has responsibility for managing the statutory legal functions of the IHREC including the provision of legal assistance, the pursuit of legal proceedings, amicus curiae and conducting inquires.
HEAD OF LEGAL
The responsibilities of this senior role involves providing support to the Commission in fulfilling its statutory obligations, the development of strategy and leading and managing the legal team.
Candidates must be a solicitor or barrister with experience of managing and developing a team, and the ability to shape strategy.

SOLICITOR
The role involves the management of a large body of casework, the provision of legal advice and assistance, contributing to the analysis and observations for policy papers and legislative proposals.
Candidates must be a solicitor with ability to plan, prioritise and supervise legal case work, operate to strict deadlines and produce strong written communications.

LEGAL OFFICER
The legal officer will have responsibility for caseload management, the assessment of applications for legal assistance, litigate on behalf of clients and provide general information on human rights and equality.
Candidates must be a solicitor or barrister with good understanding of Constitutional, Equality and Human Rights law, providing legal assistance and having an ability to manage relationships and work effectively with others.
