Ballymun Community Law Festival will take place during the last week of November 2014 (24th to 27th) on the theme 'Housing and the Law'.
The idea of a Community Law Festival is to present law in new ways, to deliver legal services, education, legal materials, a library, mediation and provoke legal discussion and understanding in the community and beyond, achieving inclusion of all members of society in a new accessible way, new atmospheres and in new community contexts. In this way, we seek to encourage people who may face significant challenges in accessing justice to recognise and embrace law as a potentially positive force in their lives.
Local schools will be involved, recognising the value and importance of young people in society. In line with the theme and the particular local community emphasis on housing and its role in the regeneration program for Ballymun, the Festival will include daily free housing-related legal advice clinics expertly attended by qualified legal professionals open to everyone.
The Axis theatre resource centre will serve as a reference point and Festival events will revolve around it. Café Conversations are planned with a very informal structure allowing the community and visitors to access the setting and facilitate equal participation from all involved. It is hoped the local community and visitors will grab the opportunity and take full advantage. Keep an eye on our website and Facebook page and click here to view the Schedule.
