The Amnesty International Report 2012, will be launched in Belfast at a briefing event on Thursday 24. The 400-page State of the World’s Human Rights report provides a review of developments in 155 countries, covering everything from life expectancy, to the use of the death penalty, repression of dissent, attitudes to censorship. The report shows trends, problems and progress over the course of the year, and reflects Amnesty’s research and campaign work to combat human rights abuse around the world.
The report will be launched by Patrick Corrigan, Northern Ireland Programme Director of Amnesty International, who will highlight the main themes and key issues addressed, including with regard to Northern Ireland. Commentary will be provided by Dr Sylvie Langlaude of the School of Law, Queen's University Belfast. A personal perspective will be provided by a refugee from the Middle East, now living in Northern Ireland.
Some copies and summary versions of the report will be available. Coffee and tea will be provided.
