The UK Government has issued new planning policy relating to accommodation sites for Travellers. The document Planning Policy for Traveller Sites (PPFTS), replaces two previous circulars and should be read together with the Government’s National Planning Policy Framework.
The objective of the new planning policy is “to ensure fair and equal treatment for Travellers, in a way that facilitates the traditional and nomadic way of life of Travellers while respecting the interests of the settled community.” It also stipulates that local planning authorities’ policies should be implemented in a way that is “fair and should facilitate the traditional and nomadic life of travellers while respecting the interests of the settled community.”
