The Irish Traveller Movement Independent Law Centre is providing training for local Traveller groups on the use of equality legislation.
The aim of the training is to provide practical workshops on the representation of Travellers in equality cases and to share with the groups the test case strategy of the Irish Traveller Movement Law Centre. We hope that this training will also help to develop the case strategy of the Law Centre by using feedback received from the local groups.
Who should do this course?
The training will take the 'problems' faced by the community and demonstrate how this can be translated into successful cases tackling institutionalised discrimination. This will allow local groups to view issues affecting Travellers as legal issues and to identify potential challenges to subtle discriminatory practices and policies that can bring about real change for the wider Traveller population.
By meeting with groups and discussing issues affecting Travellers 'on the ground' the Irish Traveller Movement Law Centre will become aware of current issues affecting Travellers. This will inform the test case strategy of the Law Centre and, potentially, local groups. We see the test case strategy as a living document in need of constant review as issues change on the ground and we view this project as the best way to identify new equality issues.
