Crosscare migrant project seeks Research Intern, deadline 9 September 2011

Crosscare Migrant Project (CMP) is a non-governmental information, advocacy and referral organisation for migrants in vulnerable situations. CMP provides information to intending, existing and returning Irish emigrants as well as migrants to Ireland. CMP also works to effect positive change in migration-related policy.

The main objectives of the internship will be to:

  • Gather and record quantitative data on the numbers, profiles and destinations of recent Irish emigrants to the UK
  • Gather and record qualitative data on reasons for emigration and the experiences and issues faced by new Irish arrivals in the UK in accessing services etc.;
  • Identify organisations/agencies both in Ireland and the UK that can provide relevant information on Irish emigrants to the UK
  • Develop links/establish relationships with these agencies where relevant, with a view to CMP maintaining these relationships at the end of the internship;
  • Produce a detailed report on the findings of the research and resulting Recommendations

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Some previous research and report writing experience either in an educational or professional capacity
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Knowledge of and interest in Irish emigration
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Commitment to Crosscare's core values of respect, human rights, integrity and excellence

Time commitment: The days and hours of the internship will be agreed between CMP and the successful candidate. The candidate will be expected to complete the research over a period of either three months full-time or six months part-time. The anticipated start date for the project is the beginning of October 2011.

Location: The internship will be based at our office at 1 Cathedral St., Dublin 1.

Expenses: Please note that this is an unpaid internship. Travel and lunch expenses will be reimbursed based on completed expenses sheet and receipts, subject to an upper limit of €15 per day.
