The 2011 AGM of the IPRT will take place on Thursday 21 July 2011. The AGM will be followed by a Prison Law Seminars focusing on two recent court judgments from California and Ireland, which found that the constitutional rights of prisoners were being infringed by unacceptable prison conditions.
Speakers
California: Don Specter and Sara Norman, Director and Managing Attorney respectively of the Prison Law Office, San Quentin, were involved in the Plata v. Brown case, which recently led to the Supreme Court decision ordering California to release 32,000 prisoners within the next 2 years in response to overcrowding. Their presentation will be broadcast on screen.
Ireland: Michael O'Higgins SC will speak on the recent High Court decision in Kinsella v. Governor of Mountjoy.
