The Committee on the Administration of Justice, British Irish Rights Watch and The Pat Finucane Centre and Relatives for Justice are holding a seminar this International Human Rights Day on Friday 10 December 2010. The seminar title is 'The Past is Still Present: The legacy of the conflict: Where do we go from here?'.
Given that none of the recommendations made by the Consultative Group on the Past in January 2009 have been implemented, and the Government has indicated that it is engaging in a new consultation process, this is an opportunity to engage in a discussion on how to move this debate forward.
In this seminar we will explore the current measures which exist to address the legacy of the conflict. A panel discussion representing varying perspectives will review the current mechanisms in place including the OPONI, HET and Inquests. Denis Bradley will reflect on the lessons to be drawn from the work of the Consultative Group on the Past and there will be an opportunity to engage in discussion with both panels. This seminar will bring together key stakeholders in the various mechanisms set up to deal with the legacy of the conflict, in particular victims, as well as community and voluntary organisations, human rights groups, lawyers, academics and political representatives.
As places will be limited, it is essential that you register your interest with events@caj.org.uk and your place will be confirmed closer to the time and the conference agenda will be forwarded to you.
