Events: Human Rights in Ireland Blog with the support of PILA hosts seminar on rights, advocacy and engagement, 20 August 2010

The Human Rights in Ireland Blog with the support of PILA is hosting a seminar on rights, advocacy and engagement in the Phelan Room, National University of Ireland, 49 Merrion Square, Dublin 2 on 20 August 2010 at 1.15pm. The seminar will be focused on the ways in which NGOs, practitioners, social activists, academics, the media ('new' and 'traditional') and others interact in the areas of rights promotion, awareness, enforcement, protection and discourse.

The seminar will have three themes: 'Ideology and Rights', 'Rights, Society and Interaction' and 'Media and Rights Engagement'. Each panel will feature a number of select speakers and be followed by a general discussion in the group as a whole. Confirmed feature speakers include Prof. William Binchy (TCD and IHRC), Harry Browne and multi-award winning blogger Suzy Byrne (www.mamanpoulet.com). The seminar will be webcast live, with full interaction through twitter (@humanrightsblog) so that people unable to attend can still be part of the event in real time.
