PILA runs a Pro Bono Referral Scheme that connects social justice organisations with free legal expertise provided by a pro bono barrister or solicitor.

We work with a wide range of social justice partners, including community organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and independent law centres.

NGO partners can obtain free legal assistance where they do not have the resources or in-house expertise, in the following ways:

• Legal Advice
  on organisational issues or in line with policy and campaign work
• Law Reform Working Groups
  where lawyers and NGOs come together to work to implement social change
• Strategic Litigation Support
  including pre-litigation advices and casework on strategic cases that may benefit a wider group
• Legal Education Sessions
  to better equip NGO staff in navigating the law
• Signature Projects
  where a law firm and NGO forge an ongoing partnership to fill an unmet legal need

PILA also provides opportunities for organisations to attend events, or initiate roundtables on common themes or new areas of law.

PILA is unable to help individuals with legal queries.

The only exception is where an NGO partner is supporting a person with a legal need that relates to a wider systemic issue.
