Irish Candidate for election as member to the Council of Europe European Committee of Social Rights – deadline midnight Friday 2 September 2016

The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Ms Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD, is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced persons for consideration for selection as the candidate nominated by Ireland for consideration by the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers to fill a vacancy arising on the Council of Europe’s European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR).

This a six year term of office, from January 2017 to December 2022.

The role includes examining reports submitted by State Parties to the European Social Charter and making legal assessments on conformity; and examining complaints lodged under the Charter. The committee members are expected to be “of the highest integrity and of recognised competence in national and international social questions” and must declare independence, impartiality and confidentiality.

The candidate should have a legal background and relevant human rights expertise, preferably with judicial experience, particularly in the field of economic and social rights. A shortlist will be selected and placed before the Minister for consideration on the grounds of educational, academic and other qualifications; breadth of international experience; domestic expertise in economic and social rights; and any publications or other works.

Please note that selection as the Irish candidate does not guarantee election to the ECSR.

To apply, please submit a detailed CV and cover letter to socialcharter@djei.ie by midnight on Friday 2 September 2016.
