Children’s Rights Alliance: First Child Summit – 8 September, Dublin

Venue:  There has been a change of venue due to popular demand. It will now be held at Croke Park (Cusack Suite – enter from St. James’ Avenue).

The Department of Children and Youth Affairs and the Children’s Rights Alliance are hosting a joint symposium following the recent examination of Ireland’s children’s rights record by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. The symposium is held with a view to progressing the implementation of the Committee’s recommendations.

There will be a series of sessions focussing on themes such as family and alternative care including children in detention; education, leisure and culture; equality; health; immigration and direct provision; and poverty and homelessness.

There is an extensive list of guest speakers including, among others, Dr Katherine Zappone, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Mr Gehad Madi and Professor Kirsten Sandberg from the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, Ms Tanya Ward, CEO of the Children’s Rights Alliance and a number of young people from the ‘Picture Your Rights’ project who represented the children of Ireland before the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
