Front Line Defenders: Executive Director – deadline 29 July 2016

Front line Defenders is seeking an Executive Director in Dublin. Front Line Defenders, the International Foundation for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, seeks to protect and support human rights defenders that are at risk, through advocating for them overseas, security grants, training and other resources. Their headquarters are based in Dublin, but they have international offices across the globe, and the role of Executive Director will involve frequent travel.

The role of the Executive Director will involve the financial management and policy development of the organisation, overseeing advocacy and lobbying strategies and ensuring effective action on behalf of human right defenders at risk. They will also develop a fundraising programme and complete fundraising presentations. Further roles include servicing the board of trustees, liaising and managing specific responsibility with the Irish Government, organising grant allocations and developing staff.

The requirements for the role include 5 years of experience at senior level in a human rights based activity organisation in a leadership role, an understanding of the political environment for human right defenders and also have excellent communication and analytical skills. A third level qualification is also required, preferably in human rights or another relevant discipline.
