Liberty UK: Policy Assistant – 14 August 2015

Liberty is looking for a Policy Assistant to become involved in their campaigns. As Policy Assistant you will provide vital and varied support to the Policy Team, with a particular focus on the Save Our Human Rights Act Campaign. The position is a full time, paid contract. The job entails; conducting research on policy issues, work with the Policy team to monitor current policy developments, identify new policy requirements and help develop new policies, help to produce policy briefings and other materials on relevant policy developments, including for dissemination among Liberty staff, carry out administrative activities such as the scheduling of meetings, liaise with NGOs, public bodies and parliamentarians as directed by the Policy Director, liaise with external partners (e.g. barristers and solicitors) in the preparation of policy materials and Contribute to the overall work of the Policy department to ensure objectives are achieved. Additionally perform other duties as necessary at the request of the Director of Policy and Director.

Liberty is a campaigning membership organisation at the heart of the movement for fundamental rights and freedoms in the UK. They promote the values of individual human dignity, equal treatment and fairness as the foundations of a democratic society who campaign to protect basic rights and freedoms through the courts, in Parliament and in the wider community.

Eligible candidates should be an excellent legal researcher with a passionate commitment to human rights, excellent communication skills and sound political judgment.

Suitable candidates should also have an interest in equality, human rights, policy & research, Social welfare, Marketing & PR, Communications, Market research and have an undergraduate degree, or a relevant equivalent, in law.
