Law & Development Partnership: LASER Project Sierra Leone Resident Adviser – 5 August 2015

The Law and Development Partnership is recruiting for the post of Resident Adviser. LASER (Legal Assistance for Economic Reform) is a £4.3 million, three-year, Department for International Development (DFID) funded programme implemented by The Law & Development Partnership and KPMG. The programme’s aim is to find new ways in advancing developing countries to address legal issues which affect their economic growth, in areas such as commercial dispute resolution etc.

The main focus of the resident adviser will be to support the Sierra Leone Government to operationalise Commercial law and Justice and, in addition, he or she will assist the Government to respond to new commercial law and justice priorities that have emerged as a result of the Ebola crisis.

The position is for one year in Freetown, Sierra Leone.  Applicants must be a qualified commercial lawyer with significant experience. The adviser will be expected to work in a highly adaptive, iterative and politically informed manner, responding to opportunities that arise, testing out approaches and adapting ideas and approaches in line with what works. The objective is to work with counterparts to develop appropriate, sustainable, and ‘owned’ solutions to Commercial Law and Justice problems, as well as developing local CLJ capacity.
