Senior Legal Advisor (Fundamental Rights), Milieu Ltd, Brussels

Milieu Ltd is a growing consulting firm based in Brussels with a record of excellence in international and European policy and law – primarily with respect to environmental protection but also in such fields as fundamental rights, public health, consumer protection and health and safety. We provide our expertise mainly for European institutions and other public sector clients.

Milieu is seeking to recruit an additional senior legal advisor to complement its team of dedicated and motivated professionals and to maintain its continued growth. The selected candidate will work primarily in the field of justice, fundamental rights, free movement, social and employment issues. The senior legal advisor will also be expected to become involved in the process of developing Milieu’s business as a whole and to participate proactively as part of the management team.

Key tasks will include:

·           Conceptualising and writing project proposals, setting up a project team and structuring budgets;

·           Management of complex legal/policy research and analysis projects from their inception to their completion, including:

o liaising with clients and internal and external experts;

o ensuring that work deliverables meet the client’s requirements and quality objectives;

o ensuring that deadlines are met;

o financial oversight;

·           Taking responsibility for collaborative work opportunities, project delivery and project profitability.

Key qualifications and skills for the position:

·           Law degree, preferably with a specialisation in the field of justice or fundamental rights;

·           At least five years of previous experience carrying out law and/or policy studies, including in a management role, preferably for the EU institutions or EU service providers;

·           Excellent drafting skills;

·           Strong organisational skills;

·           An independent, self-starting personality;

·           Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of other EU languages strongly desirable;

·           Proven expertise in the field of justice and fundamental rights, in particular non-discrimination, is an advantage;

·           Familiarity with policy analysis approaches, including regulatory impact assessment, is an advantage.
