Respond! are inviting applications for the position of Legal Researcher Internship located at Airmount, Dominick Place, Waterford. The role of the Legal Researcher Intern is to identify and retrieve information necessary to assist legal decision-making.  The Legal Researcher Intern will work within the internal legal department and will attain valuable exposure in case preparation, legal compliance and macro legal research. The intern will have the opportunity to gain a good understanding and further develop practical skills in a busy legal environment. This role will provide a valuable learning opportunity for someone starting their Legal career.

Duties include:

  • The intern will gain practical experience in case preparation, legal compliance and macro legal research.
  • The intern will receive formal/informal training in the following areas: legal research, case preparation, application of law and legal strategies.
  • To observe, receive, and otherwise learn how to obtain information from all relevant legal sources such as Statute, EU Directives, Precedent, Case Law & Common Law.
  • Using relevant information and individual judgment to help determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
  • Help research source data on assigned work and learn how to prepare detailed reports on legal issues as required.
  • Learn how to Investigate facts and analyse information  to determine causes of action
  • Help provide solutions to resolve disputes, grievances and conflicts, or otherwise negotiating with others.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and communicate with people internally and externally.
  • Provide assistance when organisation needs to be represented to clients, the public, & other external sources.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Person specification:

  • Third level qualification in Legal Studies is essential.
  • Excellent  understanding of quantitative/qualitative evaluation.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate an eagerness to learn, positive attitude with a solution focused mentality.
  • Excellent investigatory and analytical skills with an ability to think in broad concepts as well as having an attention to detail.
  • Good computer literacy including proficiency in the MS Office suite.
  • An ability to deal with confidential matters in a professional manner.
  • Team player and flexibility in their attitude to work

Terms: 9 month JobBridge internship - 32 hours per week over 4 days. Please note this is an Internship and does not offer a salary. However, an Internship Allowance of €50 per week will be paid in addition to your current Social Welfare payments. Candidates must also be eligible for the JobBridge scheme i.e. have claimed Jobseekers Allowance / Benefit or signing for social insurance contribution credits for minimum of 3 months.
