Human Rights Education and Training Project Internship – Deadline 19 November

The Irish Human Rights Commission (IHRC) is leading the way with a pilot initiative in providing human rights education and training to the Public and Civil Sector. Our aim is to assist the State meet its human rights commitments and support the delivery of effective public services. The IHRC have developed a Human Rights Education and Training Project (HRETP) to co-ordinate this work.

The internship in this area would expose the successful candidate to the work of the IHRC in implementing its Human Rights Education and Training work within the Research and Policy Division, including informing the Civil and Public Sector and key decision makers of the Project's events, publications, and web. The internship in this area is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to gain hands on experience organising and participating in events and training projects concerning key stakeholders such as the Irish Defence Forces, the Irish Prison Service, and Local Authorities among others. 

This position is particularly suitable for people who wish to work in research, education and training in relation to human rights, equality or social justice or to candidates from National Human Rights Institutions or other organisations involved in research, education and training on human rights. It may also be of particular interest to people studying distance learning techniques and e-learning tools.

 

Criteria for Applicants

Essential criteria

  • Fluency in English;
  • Graduate or postgraduate qualification in human rights law, political science, equality or social justice, teaching, or similar;
  • Excellent research skills;
  • Some work experience in a professional environment;
  • Demonstrated interest in the area of human rights;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Very good writing skills; 
  • The ability to work in a team and to specific deadlines;
  • Availability for not less than 4 months, (preference will be given to those available for six months);
  • Permission to be legally resident in Ireland;

 

Desirable criteria

  • Some experience of communicating legalise in a more accessible format, especially with a training function in mind;
  • Some experience of event management;
  • Library skills;
  • IT skills.
