Save the Date: Economic, Social & Cultural Rights Conference - 22 November, Dublin

Amnesty International Ireland Conference - "A deficit of protection - economic, social and cultural rights in Ireland"

Date: 22 November 2012, Dublin
Time: 0900 - 1700 hours
Location: Hilton Hotel, Charlemont Place, Dublin 2

Amnesty International Ireland invites you to save the date for our conference on economic, social and cultural rights on 22 November 2012.

Equal legal recognition for all human rights has been resisted in Ireland. The importance of these rights has been made all the more apparent by the ongoing financial crisis where the vulnerable and marginalised often bear the brunt of austerity measures. Government's human rights obligations must be brought to bear in framing the decisions during this crisis, and protecting those most vulnerable.

This conference will look at the relevance of ESC rights to the crisis, how the protection of those rights can be brought to bear through legal change, and the other dynamics at play, including political will and public attitudes.

Speakers include Audrey Gaughran, Amnesty International Secretariat; Des Hogan, Irish Human Rights Commission; Dr. Aoife Nolan, University of Nottingham; Dr. Conor O’Mahony, University College Cork; Duncan Wilson, Scottish Human Rights Commission; Emily O'Reilly, Ombudsman; Michael Farrell, Free Legal Advice Centres; Dr. Rory O’Connell, Queen’s University Belfast; Sarah Castell, Ipsos Mori; Mary Murphy, National University of Ireland, Maynooth.

There are no registration fees for the conference, however there are limited spaces. Invitations will be sent out in the coming weeks but if you would like to indicate your interest in advance, please do so by emailing MLawlor@amnesty.ie. If you have any questions please call 01 863 3000.
