Legal Project Manager, The Aire Centre, London - deadline 18 May 2012

Project Aim: The Aire Centre project funded by Esmée Fairbairn focuses on providing legal advice and services to victims of trafficking and survivors of domestic violence and EEA national women in prison in the UK.

Overall Objectives of the Post: The post holder will be responsible for the provision of advice on rights, including through advice surgeries in prisons in the UK, under EU law and under the European Convention on Human Rights to these three groups. In some cases the post holder will provide representation to individuals in applications for residence documents made to the UK Border Agency, before the immigration social security tribunals in the UK and before the European Court of Human Rights.

Tasks: 

  • Providing written advice
  • Undertaking advice surgeries
  • Preparing for and undertaking advocacy before relevant tribunals
  • Delivering training on anti-trafficking and domestic violence and women prisoners
  • Compiling information notes and monitoring reports on the implementation of EU Directive 2011/36 on preventing and combating trafficking in human beings and the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence
  • Participating in meetings on the implementation of relevant EU and Council of Europe instruments
  • Petitioning the European Parliament in specific cases
  • Communicating with relevant bodies of the Council of Europe such as GRETA
  • Drafting progress reports for the funder, monitoring the project budget and ensuring project outcomes are met.
