The PILS Project and PILA are delighted to announce that their joint annual conference will take place on Thursday 7 June 2012

Title: Using international standards beyond the European Convention on Human Rights

Date: Thursday 7 June 2012

Venue: Holiday Inn, Ormeau Avenue, Belfast

The keynote address will be delivered by Asma Jahangir, internationally renowned lawyer and President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan.

There will also be contributions from a range of lawyers, academics and representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The conference will focus on:

• How international human rights standards can be used in courts in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland;
• How barriers to using international human rights standards in domestic courts can be overcome;
• Inspiring lawyers and NGOs to be more creative in using international human rights standards to advance their work.
