Women’s Human Rights Alliance Intern - deadline 17 February

The Women's Human Rights Alliance (WHRA) was established in 2001 as a coalition of human rights and women's organisations promoting a human rights approach to the advancement of women's equality in Ireland. The purpose of the Alliance is to promote women's human rights, monitor the implementation of international commitments as they relate to women, raise awareness of economic, social and cultural rights and developing the capacity of women's organisations to engage in women's human rights advocacy. The Alliance is made up of women's organisations, human rights organisations and individuals with a particular interest in women's rights.


The role of Women's Human Rights Intern will be to support the work of the Women's Human Rights Alliance in linking women's human rights at a national level to Ireland's international human rights commitments. The role will include:

  • Supporting the co-ordination and development of the Women's Human Rights Alliance
  • Assisting in consultative work around the publication of a shadow report to CEDAW as led by the WHRA, working with women's groups around the country
  • Assisting with the organisation of events relating to women's human rights
  • Keeping the Alliance and its members up to date on key human rights developments pertaining to women at national, European and international level
  • Contributing to WHRA policy positions and assisting in responding to calls for submissions in areas relating to women's human rights
  • Representing WHRA at events and in different forums relevant to the brief

Hours of work: 20 hours per week (10am-4pm Monday to Thursday)

Place of Work: NWCI, 2-3 Parnell Square East, Dublin 1.

Duration: 6 months

Report to: NWCI Women's Health and Human Rights Worker

Expenses: While there is no payment for this role expenses incurred will be reimbursed in accordance with NWCI volunteer policy. In return the successful candidate with gain valuable and hands on experience in the field of equality and human rights

Criteria:

  • Proven interest in gender equality, equality issues and/ or human rights
  • Fluent in English with excellent research and writing skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • High standard of computer literacy
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and presentation skills
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
