IPRT & the Community Platform: Social Exclusion and Crime - 2 February, Dublin

How can the criminal justice system move to a more fair and equitable administration of justice in society? Which areas of public spending are most sensitive to crime and need to be protected? What can we do to ensure that the social and economic cost of crime is fully considered in social policy development and in the budgetary process?

On Thursday 2 February, the Irish Penal Reform Trust and the Community Platform will explore these questions and more by way of a seminar focusing on the connections between social exclusion and crime, and how the problem of crime disproportionately impacts on marginalised communities.

The event takes place at 3.30pm in the Carmelite Community Centre, 56 Aungier Street, Dublin 2. A new IPRT Position Paper, The Vicious Circle of Social Exclusion and Crime: Ireland's Disproportionate Punishment of the Poor will be launched at the event.

• Kathleen Lynch - Professor of Equality Studies, School of Social Justice, University College Dublin
• Tony Geoghegan - Chief Executive Officer, Merchants Quay Ireland (MQI)
• Orla O'Connor - Head of Policy, National Women's Council of Ireland (NWCI)
• Brid O'Brien - Head of Policy and Media, Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed (INOU)
