MRCI seeks Policy and Campaigns Support Intern and Legal Advocacy Intern, deadline 2 September 2011

MRCI is a national organisation working to promote justice, empowerment and equality for migrant workers and their families.

Policy and Campaigns Support Intern

The main activities will be to:

  • Monitor policy developments at national, EU and international level
  • Coordinate the production of policy papers
  • Compile information on relevant policy issues, as requested
  • Support campaign activities and events, including communications

Criteria:

  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Flexibility and the ability to work under pressure
  • Knowledge of migration policy and issues facing migrant workers
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team

Hours of work: 25 hours per week (10-4pm, 5 days per week)

Duration: Six months

Reports to: Deputy Director

Remuneration: Travel and lunch expenses

Legal Advocacy Intern

The main activities are:

  • To provide information and assistance to undocumented workers, victims of forced labour and cases of workplace exploitation.
  • To advocate for the resolution and protection of migrants who are vulnerable to the above situations.
  • To assist in the assessment, support and administration of strategic cases.

Relevant induction and ongoing training will be provided to the successful candidate who will gain valuable knowledge and experience in the area of Irish employment law and practice.

Hours of work: 25 hours a week (10-4pm, 5 days per week)

Duration: Six months

Reports to: Project Worker

Remuneration: Travel and lunch expenses

Criteria:

  • Fluent in English - competence in other languages an advantage
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Flexibility and the ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Comfortable with MS Office
  • Knowledge of Irish employment and immigration law an advantage
