PILnet New York Office seeks Fall Program Intern, closing date 1 July 2011

PILnet, formerly known as the Public Interest Law Institute (PILI), envisions a world where rule of law, as developed and supported within a wide variety of countries, delivers justice and protects human rights.

Position Overview

PILnet is seeking an unpaid intern to assist program staff with the 2011 PILnet International fellowship. The intern will be based in PILnet's New York office, working closely with the Program Coordinator in NY as well as with PILnet's program staff in Budapest.

This internship is an exciting opportunity for anybody interested in hands-on experience in not-for-profits and with public interest law and human rights experts from around the world. In working with PILnet's program staff, the intern will primarily assist in the implementation of the Fellows Program, working closely with the 2011-2012 PILnet International Fellows. Though start and end dates are flexible, PILnet seeks an intern to start in mid-August and continue through the fall 2011 academic semester.

Key Responsibilities

- Assisting program staff with planning and execution of Fellows Program, including:
- Fellows' arrival and orientation to New York City and Columbia University;
- Providing editing support for Fellows' projects;
- Study visits to human rights/public interest law NGOs in New York;
- Internship coordination; and
- Basic administrative and other duties, as needed.

Qualifications

- Current enrolment in graduate degree program;
- Interest in public interest law, human rights and/or international affairs;
- Experience in not-for-profit/educational programs a plus;
- Resourceful, detail-oriented and organized;
- Excellent writing and computer skills;
- Enthusiastic and creative; and
- Experience and/or interest in working in a multi-cultural environment in an organization with a global focus.
