Joint Equality Commission of Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission conference on the “Disability Convention”- have your say, Belfast 1 December 2010

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (UNCRPD) requires government to promote, protect and ensure the human rights of disabled people. The UK Government will report on how it is fulfilling its obligations under the Convention by June 2011.

The Equality Commission for Northern Ireland and the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission are jointly designated as the Convention's Independent Mechanism. The Mechanism's role is to promote, protect and monitor its implementation in Northern Ireland.

This free event aims to provide an opportunity for engagement between the UNCRPD's key stakeholders, including disabled people and their representatives, government and public bodies. It will help the Independent Mechanism identify key issues and gaps in current provision for disabled people.

The event will take place at the Hilton Hotel, Templepatrick 1 December 2010. Please click here for registration. For more information, contact Naomi Roberts at the Equality Commission, tel: 02890 500645 or email: nroberts@equalityni.org. Please note that free return transport will be available on the day from Belfast city centre to the venue.
