Department of Foreign Affairs Human Rights Forum 10 December 2010

The 2010 DFA NGO Forum on Human Rights will take place at the Dublin Convention Centre on Friday, 10 December 2010. The Forum is on 'Ireland's examination under the Universal Periodic Review mechanism of the United Nations Human Rights Council on 6 October 2011'.

The Forum will open with a panel discussion to introduce and explain the Universal Periodic Review process. Subject to finalisation of the programme, it would be intended that the introductory session will be followed by three parallel workshops. The first workshop will focus on civil and political rights in the context of Ireland's UPR examination, with the second workshop focusing on economic, social and cultural rights. The third workshop will consider the international dimension of the UPR process, including Ireland's input to the process through its foreign policy.

The workshop discussions will provide an opportunity for a full exchange of views on Ireland's UPR examination with the participation of interested Irish NGOs, as well as academics, government officials and international NGO representatives.

Those interested in submitting a written contribution (max. 1000 words) in advance of the Forum to contribute to the discussions should send it by e-mail to ngoforum@dfa.ie. Written contributions will be posted on the department website as they are received.
